What you will be doing in this role:

A key outcome of the strategic work was the development of a team that will focus on combining, Strategy, Innovation, Design and Transformation to create a members experience that redefines how consumers engage with fitness. To lead Strategy and Innovation, we are seeking a Sr. Director of Strategy and Innovation.


The Sr. Director of Strategy & Innovation will lead a dedicated team focused on co-leading the 3-4 critical initiatives resulting from the strategic work, identifying and framing new strategic options, sizing and developing action plans to realize value. This role will have high visibility across the executive team, and will work with multiple functions in the organization. Position will be a key leader in testing innovative concepts in our 'Concept clubs'.



  • Continues to refine and develop the updated 24HF Value Creation Plan:

o Leads updating the 24 Hour Fitness strategy and long-term roadmap annually

o Leads the development of the annual operating plan with finance

o Finds new process improvement opportunities aimed at driving growth and creating shareholder value

o Assist ELT and departments leads in the creation of operational and tactical plans to support company strategy

  • Leads critical initiatives as defined by 24HF Leadership team along with strategy team

o Develop the sizing and prioritize strategic initiatives as determined by the ELT and strategy team

o Develop robust project plans, key questions, deliverables and outcomes

o Test and pilot ideas (if applicable)

o Develop tracking templates and process to ensure results delivery

  • Continuously develop and improve procedures that will lead to more strategic, insightful plans and/or workflow improvements 40%


  • Works hand-in-hand with Innovation team on implementing concepts in our clubs that are designed around the consumer and demonstrate leading innovation ideas and concepts

  • Leads innovation by actively participating in the development of new concepts, services and product development, demand drivers and implementation plans including evaluating new business models; may be asked to lead and own specific plans.

  • Assesses new opportunities and trends that are emerging within the fitness industry including disruptive technologies and provides a perspective on risk/ability to recreate though a 24Hour Fitness lens.

  • Oversees and works with individual businesses to identify, explore and analyze new opportunities and develop new strategic business initiatives that support growth objectives of the organization. 30%

Enterprise Analytics & BOD Material Development:

  • Establishes key analysis and insights to support the development of strategic priorities for the company working in conjunction with organizational leaders and senior leadership.

  • Develops Board of Director materials for monthly and quarterly meetings.

  • Drives business insights by leading key analysis to ensure departments have actionable insights to drive value within the business

  • Serves as the "center of excellence" on analysis and supporting the development of critical KPIs and reporting dashboards used in evaluating business and program effectiveness

  • Works cross-functionally to conduct and analyzes consumer research providing insight on strategy issues for the company and for individual businesses. 20%

M&A and Strategic Partnerships:

  • Works with SVP of Value Creation, Strategy and Transformation to assess all M&A , working with existing shareholders and advisors when needed.

  • Identifies strategic partnerships to support innovation or new consumer centric ideas to test within our clubs. Defines the potential models, completes scenario analysis to determine the best option and leads negotiations with strategic partnerships. 10%

Team building & development:

  • Recruits and hires highly passionate and strategic individuals to be part of our newly developed team

  • Assess existing organizational structure and deployment of resources across the team and continually optimizes it based on areas were most value can be created

  • Develops team and the next group of effective leaders across the organization.

This role will report to the SVP of Strategy, Transformation and Innovation and have 2-3 direct reports initially, however given this is a new group the reporting lines and structure are likely to change. Position is a key collaborator with Sr. Leaders and will work closely with all levels of team members across organization.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Minimum Educational Level/Certifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field

Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in multi-unit retail or consulting settings

  • 4-6 years of strategy consulting experience at a Top Tier Firm (Bain, BCG, McKinsey) likely in the Sr. Engagement Manager/Manager or Jr Principal Level or in Private Equity

  • Experience working prior to or after consulting in a role within an operating company

  • Experience driving strategy for large multi-unit organizations

Physical Demands/ Environmental Conditions

*Must work on a computer for extended periods of time.

*Normal day-to-day business operations including using a keyboard, walking, bending and reaching

Travel Requirement

*Travel will be 20% of role, but will vary depending on requirements.

*Ability to travel to field locations including IT center in Carlsbad California, our web/app development company in Austin Texas, and concept clubs near offices.
