JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Senior Manager of End User Services, the System Administrator is primarily responsible for maintaining and patching of information systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES Estimated % of Time Spent

  1. System Administration & Support
  • Accountable for leading, recommending, developing, testing, implementing, supporting, securing and monitoring of all workstations and administrative functions necessary for their efficient management and operations in the enterprise. The development of standards for workstations (hardware, operating system, and core applications), development of deployment and troubleshooting standards.

  • Responsible for the development, testing, distribution, and maintenance of client operating system images that incorporate various applications including office automation software, browsers, and business application software, backup, anti-spyware and anti-virus agents.

  • Regular maintenance, patch management, and additional software updates as needed.

  • Maintenance and operation of servers that support client management, anti-virus, and remote management tools, maintenance of hardware and software license inventories, patch management and upgrades (both operating system and application software), including encompass all Windows based servers in the enterprise.

  • Responsible for overall documentation/procedures related to the supported environment and its administrative and applications.

  • Management and monitoring of the remote software distribution process.

  • Employ appropriate anti-virus software and security measures appropriate in protecting the enterprise environment against viruses and other security threats.

  • Provide 3rd level support for Service Desk and Technical Services staff.

  • Provide after-hours support as part of an on-call rotation.

  • Responsible for monitoring and/or mentoring the work of team members. 100%

ORGANIZATION RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to the Senior Manager of Information Technology End-User Services and has no direct report. Communicates with all position in the Corporate office including third party vendors.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Depth knowledge of networking to include: routers, switches, firewalls, and VPN concentrators and network protocols (TCP/IP) and core services such as DNS, DHCP, WINS, Group Policy, and Active Directory.

  • Altiris Certified Engineer (ACE) -- Expert knowledge of Altiris CMS and NS.

  • Change configuration and support for both the Altiris DS and NS servers.

  • Working knowledge of hardware and software to include: assembly and testing of workstations and peripherals, installation and configuration of backup software, antivirus software, network operating systems, file servers, print servers, webservers, browsers, database servers, and client software.

  • Install and maintain Altiris clients in an enterprise-wide environment (2000+ nodes) and manage an Altiris Server infrastructure (includes scheduled maintenance, backup and optimization).

  • Experience working with VMWare ESX and VMWare Virtual Center (any VMWare experience is a plus

  • Competent with mainstream office automation, project management, presentation, and communications tools.

  • Ability to work under pressure.

Minimum Educational Level/Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant Engineering/Computer Science field.

  • MCSE certification or equivalent experience.

Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience creating and maintaining collections, creating roles, and have written custom reports utilizing MS Visual Basic for various organizations of 2000+ nodes that have both the Altiris Management and Application Metering suites to provide customized hardware and software reports as required.

  • 5+ years of experience in application packaging using InstallShield Admin Studio and/or WISE Package Studio for remote software distribution. This also includes package creation, testing, and deployment.

  • 7+ years of experience with desktop computers and operating systems, including Microsoft Windows and Apple OS X.

  • 5+ years of experience with HP servers and Microsoft Windows 2003 servers, familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server 2000 SP3 or SQL Server 2005 is a plus.

  • 3+ years of experience in a technical lead or supervisory position.

Physical Demands/ Environmental Conditions

  • This position requires repetitive use of the hands to finger, handle or feel; reaching with hands and arms; standing, and sitting for extended periods of time. Employee is prohibited from lifting in excess of 50 pounds without additional employee assistance, or without the use of specialty equipment designed to lift heavy weight.

Travel Requirement

  • Travel is rare and is mainly limited to traveling to local training facilities by car. On very rare occasions this person may need to fly to another state for business reasons.
